      Jon,

Curious as to why we document as fact (implied in the headline presentation) that the lab in Wuhan did not have this coronavirus in its possession simply because its director says so?  On a State run news broadcast? Did I miss something in the article?  I am not saying they did or didn’t but I would like to see something more before I would say definitively….

Better headline for your summary – “Wuhan Lab Director Tells State-Run Broadcaster ‘We didn’t have this virus’”

But then it doesn’t even really sound newsworthy.

I just put the headlines in and don’t try to editorialize by altering them. There have been a few times when I was tempted to do that, but I don’t.

In general, so much of the news comes with an editorial slant one way or the other. So if we were going to try to correct that in these posts, we’d have a pretty big job, and then of course some people would still not be happy with some of the calls.

So I think the right thing is to just put the headlines in as-is, sometimes with a bit of the lede, and then add any editorial comments of our own alongside all that (rather than altering the headline).

As for the specific Wuhan lab issue, I’m not invested in that fight one way or the other. I personally just don’t have a lot of feelings about if it was a lab leak or a natural occurrence. I have opinions on the matter, but I’m not that invested in them and am happy to change if I get new info.
