I once acquired a substantial amount of eggs whilst working on a farm, most eggs will last until you can eat them, with only the 2 of us mine lasted several months. do the water test before using, put them into a pan of cold water, any that float are bad- the gases inside make them float, if they sink they are fine.
too dangerous to touch live cables, turn round and find another route.
I live in the mild south west of England so dosent normally get that cold, but when it does I wear a lined Combat Jacket, otherwise I am wearing an unlined Para(as in Parachute regiment) jacket, in the warmer weather I wear a hooded fleece(known as a Hoodie here) all camo of course!
nope, not concerned about others that dont prep, that is their choice.
Mad Max probably but I dont base my prepping on it.
The only way most people will recognise grid down is when the lights go off. the next thing is to find out whether its a short term repair fault or something more permanent, most repair faults take a few hours to 1 day at most, if its longer than that then its probably something more man made like a cyber attack, if its an EMP or a nuclear attack then it will probably be more obvious. heading out AFTER the grid goes down is a fools game, people will be more panicky and violence and riots could happen, the time to prepare is before anything happens.
yep, I have that book.
I was brought up on power cuts, they were normal and happened more often than today.
strange that. British people kept rabbits and chickens during WW2 when the supply chain was next to collapsed and imports were subject to torpedo’s from enemy subs but somehow they managed, probably different breeds that what we have these days.
Power grid down..however it is caused, is one of the top risks I prep for.
most preppers I speak to think it will be more like 99%. most of the population do not prepare, do not have more than a few days food in the house at any one time, most dont even have a flashlight, when the big one comes most will be dead within a month never mind a year, no food no water no chance.
who’s the enemy post SHTF? EVERYONE ELSE, trust no one!
you are right BP, most people are woefully unprepared, oh sure, they grizzle and moan at raised prices and stuff but they dont do anything about it. you will never get the British public to prepare, they use the supermarkets as their larder and just expect stuff to be on the shelves when they want it then panic when it isnt, Covid taught us that.
this is well known by all old time gardeners, Urine contains nitrogen which is good for the garden, collect urine in a large container, mix 5 parts water to 1 part urine, water AROUND plants not directly onto the leaves but around the stem and roots.
not a damned thing, my dad’s attitude was to push me out of the way and do it himself, he didnt teach me anything, everything I have learned has been self taught, trial and error.
just finding an elevator around here would be a good trick, even in the larger towns around here there is no such animal.
okay got it now, Deer Stalking qualification. I wont be stalking any deer either now or post SHTF.
I wasnt lecturing anyone Smitty. I merely said there is plenty of game in my neck of the woods, whether anyone has the skills to catch it is another matter. thats a fact not a lecture.
still produces a spark whatever it is. even the steel bit of a flint and steel is a man made product.
