Any Info on Battery Life? How often needs a charge, etc.

It’s up in the bullet list of features. It’s a 10 day battery life if you’re polling every 10 minutes. I didn’t leave it on and out for 10 days, but this seems pretty realistic. It will be shorter if you’re actually transmitting messages, because it takes far more power to transmit than to just poll for location and/or data. They claim you can send 10K messages with it.

That’s a lot of “10’s” though, so these all have the feel of ballpark estimates to me.

what happens if Somewear goes out of business? what kind of connectivity/uptime on their end is required for this service to work, and what has their track record been of uptime?

        This is a good question.

I’ll ping them and get some kind of statement on this.

As this type of technology progresses and develops we should also see prices come down. It sounds like a great product, but $350 x2 — 1 for me and 1 for my wife, so we can actually communicate in a true collapse scenario, does get pricey. Though it’s not any more than a decent AR-15….

Very informative article. Thank you! If I set up tracking so my wife can follow my position while I’m out hiking, what does it look like on her end? Does she just get text messages with links that will direct her to an online map with my location? Or does this require her to have the app?

The other reason I ask is because if I fall off a cliff and am unresponsive, I won’t be hitting the SOS button. She’d have my location, but would she be able to share it with rescue crews if she can only view my location on the app?

You can now also search Google over SMS from your Somewear device (or any other personal satellite communicator) which gives these devices even more utility. You can use this to search anything on the Internet from anywhere for whatever reason you need. Very simple to get up and searching by sending “GPS SURCH” to +1-989-GO-SURCH. Check out SurchBot on Instagram for more info.
