I found another TTRPG that’s good for this! The game is called Twilight 2000, and I’m specifically referring to the 4th Edition of it. The default setting is a post-war year 2000 involving the Soviet Union not falling and launching WW3 in the 90s, but much like Endure it can be modified to handle other settings as well. I’ve seen games based on Y2K, Brexit, EMP strikes, and video games like The Division, The Long Dark, and Escape from Tarkov. There is a bit of a military and/or combat focus to it, but also stuff like Home Bases and travel rules. It also comes with solo play rules, so you don’t even need someone to run it! I created my nuclear family as Player Characters in the game using its Lifepath system, and I intend to use the system to run a series of crisis simulations for entertainment and educational purposes. I could also do something similar for the community here the way I tried to with Endure, but since Twilight 2000 is not only a system with combat but also a lethal system it’d have to be known ahead of time that your characters could get hurt and/or die. Let me know if this is something anyone here is interested in!
Okay cool that was going to be a follow-up question of how much cash I should have on hand. I was thinking maybe 100-200 dollars so that helps!
I haven’t bought my first pistol yet, as I won’t be turning 21 until 2024, but I do have a question I want to ask. The pistol I’m looking to buy for training purposes is a Taurus TX22, due to it’s price and the 16 round magazine. What I want to know is whether the TX22 is too big for concealed carry purposes. Yes, I know .22 LR is not the best round for self-defense, but I’ll upgrade once I’m no longer on a college student/minimum wage budget.
Initially, I was passively worried about the future ever since the lockdown happened in 2020. Prior to that I generally assumed that my family, comprised mostly of people with outdoor hobby experience (hunting, fishing, etc.) was prepared enough for whatever came our way. Then Covid-19 blindsided everyone, and my anxiety started to rise. That was when a video randomly popped up in my YouTube recommendations by a channel called City Prepping. I believe the video was about cooking if the grid goes down. His calm demeanor about it and approach to preparedness as more of a safety net than a conspiracy theorist fearmongering mindset is what ultimately hooked me into the concept. I’m probably one of the few members of Gen Z who’s gotten into preparedness, but since doing so a lot of my passive anxiety feels alleviated rather than increased. Then I discovered this website while researching good firearms for beginner gun owners. ThePrepared has the same cool-headed approach as the YouTube channel that exposed me to preparedness, and I feel all the better for it.
I recently got Project Zomboid, and yeah it definitely fits! I like how your character’s occupation can play a major role in your survival style, and just how deadly the game really is.
That’s good to hear at least! Right now my only medical knowledge is basic first aid, and I am CPR Certified, but hopefully once I actually get to Nursing school I’ll pick up more skills.
Could I get a Slack invite whenever it’s convenient? Thanks!
I’m not familiar with Slack, but I’m open to brainstorming with the whole group on the details!
Honestly I’m nervous as heck. I’m just a college student trying to become a Nurse, and I’m worried that all my efforts will amount to nothing. If SHTF happens before I learn what I need then I’m basically dead weight, and with the rate things are progressing I’m getting more scared of this by the day. I’ve been playing a lot of survival games as my way of fighting this feeling. Something about playing as a character who’s capable of persevering through the challenges ahead is therapeutic. Still, the more I hear the more anxious I become. On the bright side, I’ve taken more of an interest in my physical health and other important skills (like how to properly shoot and maintain a firearm). I just hope I can learn them in time.
I’m more than willing to GM! I already have a Discord server set up so I can invite y’all there if you want.
Yep I know about it! That’s part of the reason I made this post.
I came here to say this. TLD has got to be my all-time favorite Survival Game. One thing I like is that it doesn’t have an emphasis on combat or weapons, like Ark: Survival Evolved. It’s more thoughtful, and punishing in a meaningful way.
