I like making small repairs myself. I like the mental challenge of figuring out why something isn’t working correctly, and then the added challenge of figuring out how to fix it. I’m a 70 year old woman, and I find myself dragging strange things to the hardware store since I don’t know the right lingo to describe what I need. My last trip was dragging a folding camp chair that just needed a new nut and bolt to hold a leg together. It’s a great feeling that I fixed it for a few dollars and did not need to buy a replacement.
What I’m good at – stocking up when things are on sale, always filling car gas tank when it hits half empty, keeping some cash on hand, keeping my preps neat, organized and labeled. What I need to get better at – rotating stored food and OTC meds, growing more of my own food. What I need to start – get a handgun and practice using it, reroof the house and set up a rain catchment system.
I have powdered vinegar and powdered soy sauce but will look for Worcestershire too! Thanks.
I found TRUE Lemon crystals in packets in the following flavors: lemon, lime, orange, and grapefruit. I’ve had them about 5 years now and they are still fine and add a puckery punch to my guacamole, iced tea, fish, etc. Bought them on Amazon.
I was born and raised in earthquake country (San Francisco Bay Area). I’ve always been somewhat prepared, but really took steps to prepare for disasters once I had children. I started by moving all our camping gear to an outside shed, then start adding food, water, medications, clothes, etc., then started rotating the food, meds, water, and clothes. Always had food, water, and baby supplies in my mommy van and diaper bag. Didn’t even know that what I was doing had a label other than just being organized!
I am helping others start prepping. As I have all the “stuff” I can possibly store in my two bedroom, one car garage condo, I am now helping others start the prepping journey. I purchased some use baby goods the other day (another grandchild on the way) from a young family. When the dad heard why I was looking for more baby items, he gave me several more useful, expensive items for free. We got to talking a bit, and now I am going to gift him and his family with a basic BOB from all the extra stuff I have. Pass along the knowledge and others will be there to help as we age. Great topic, thanks for starting the conversation.
