- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2022Size: 5x6 Inch (Pack of 24)Verified PurchaseThe first time I needed to use an Instant Cold Pack, it was not an easy experience in order to get to Cold. I would squeeze according to the directions with immense pressure equally distributed around the circumference of the Pack, ( as an aside, I was a combat medic in VN and have been strength training since I came home. Ergo, I will attest to the durability of the Instant Cold Pack ) to continue, it was No Joy for Cold , even after I massaged the granules into place.
My second try was a lot more fruitful. Same pack, this was for the Church so I could not waste them. Same routine, but now, I really was aggressive with the movement of the granules and, after about a minute, The Eagle Had Landed ! Also, the pack stayed in tact, no tears or leaks, and the cold was really cold and remained usable to reduce pain and swelling.
Now, I am not advocating for an eight hour cold pack treatment. The normal rules for cold pack therapy are in place, of course. We do not want to reduce pain and cause frost damage to the skin. By staying cold for so long, eight hours by my timing, a break from use can be taken without having to use another pack when therapy is recontinued. By staying cold for so long, one pack can treat more than one site. Three different sites was the best I could do using 10-15 minute treatment time per site.
Now, I think that I have an answer to the people who found it a negative to have to manipulate the pack for so long before reaching an excellent level of cold; Please consider the following:
1) The manipulation time will allow you to calm down and focus on something else besides the pounding in your head,
2) also, it will give you a little time to talk to the Little One and calm his fear. After such a short time, one minute, you will be looked at as a magician.
3) you have a little time to calmly eyeball the injured child and assess the damage and act accordingly.
This is an excellent product that I was going to scrap because it did do what I wanted fast enough. The extra time certainly led to long term usability and that is the BIG plus.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2021Size: 5x6 Inch (Pack of 24)Verified PurchaseMy box of 24 arrived today. The bags were a little smaller than I expected but that's my fault for not reading the description where it shows the sizes. I opened the box and took one out. I squeezed and twisted and it started to feel a bit cold but I never heard anything pop. It was cold but not as cold as others I've used.
Then I decided to read those with a one star rating. Most seemed to be the same complaint as mine. It didn't stay cold long enough and they felt it had already been popped. So, I took the one I was using and this time, I REALLY squeezed it and sure enough, I heard a pop and instantly, it got very cold.
I applied it to my ankle and set the timer. It stayed cold for 13 minutes. That's really not so bad. When it got warm, it was all at once. The bottom line here is, it was my fault for not pressing hard enough to make the inner bag pop. I'll know better on the next one. From what I see now, I would buy these again.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2024Size: 6 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseI ordered these to refill first aid kids and for the car ride home after surgery. Disappointed to find they are extremely difficult to pop to activate, even my husband struggled. Once popped, they are cool —- not even truly cold—- for a very short time. Minutes at the most. I wouldn’t mind the small size if they cooled effectively or provided any relief whatsoever. They truly are useless; I really can’t see any suitable use for these. I would return them if I didn’t already use one.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2024Size: 6 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseThey were a bit hard to activate and they don’t stay cold very long, however, they were just fine for the boys baseball team.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2024Size: 6 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseI am a team manager for 2 soccer teams and always have these in my medical first aid kit. They are easy to activate (fold, squeeze and pop) and most importantly they are cold!! So many I have used in the past are hardly cool. The only downfall is that are on the smaller side and when tending to high school aged boys, I need to use 2 at a time.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2024Size: 6 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseI had one similar to this in my first aid kit, and used it when a friend of mine rolled his ankle playing sports. It was great, super cold, and lasted a decent amount of time. So I got this in hopes it’d be the same and to replace the kit.
To test it I tried one and timed it. It stayed cold for 12 minutes and was chill for another 5ish minutes. However, it didn’t get as cold as I had hoped, like as cold as an ice pack. It was cold, but not cold enough to help with an inflamed injury, like a strained ankle, which is most likely what it would be used for being a volleyball player. Therefore in terms of pain relief, it would lack, but at least it could provide small some comfort when injured.
Other than this, it was great in size and portability.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2022Size: 6 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseI purchased these cold packs for an overseas trip I took in Feb/March. I was on a tour with 34 other people and there was a lot of walking. I have knee and ankle issues and wore braces while out and about, but I still needed to ice in the evenings. These ice packs did the trick. The cold didn't last as long as I'd like, but it was enough to help keep my knees and ankles from swelling and helped with the strain/pain. When I cracked the first one open, it took a lot of strength and I was worried I'd break it wide open - but it didn't and thus I figured out how to best get the cold activated. These were certainly worth the cost and I'll buy them again and use them when I travel the next time (especially if there will be a lot of walking).
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2024Size: 6 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseGot these for work...they work fast and are very cold. They don't last too long but works well for what I needed it for.
